16日下午，在泰國曼谷靠近機場快線瑪卡珊站，發生火車與公交車相撞事故。泰國交通部副部長西里蓬當天在接受采訪時表示，此次事故為火車撞上公交車。
事發時，公交車因紅燈停在鐵路軌道上，導致鐵路道口的欄桿無法放下。同時，由于火車上運載的是較重的集裝箱車廂，因此來不及剎車，最終引發了此次事故。
