“混不下去回國了”？顏寧回應：說這話的人多崇洋媚外啊

近日，中國科學院院士、深圳醫學科學院創始院長、深圳灣實驗室主任顏寧針對冷凍電鏡技術的發展和一些“黑粉”言論作出回應。

Chinese structural biologist Yan Ning has publicly defended the transformative scientific value of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and AI-enabled structure prediction in response to online skepticism.

顏寧在個人微博中寫道：“AlphaFold突破，無知者：‘顏寧的專業被取代了，混不下去回國了’（不是，這么說話的人有沒有意識到自己心里是多崇洋媚外啊，合著潛意識就覺得出國才是升，只有混不下去才能回國，而不是因為更好的環境？都21世紀第三個十年了，某些人骨子里的那些自卑就別無知無畏地丟人現眼了）；專業人員：AI賦能，終于又能擺脫一部分重復勞動了，可惜AF還不太行，好多預測不出來或者預測不準。”

Referring to advances in AlphaFold, Yan said some uninformed commentators wrongly viewed AI as replacing her field and interpreted her return to China as a sign of limited prospects abroad.

She criticized such views as reflecting an outdated bias that equates overseas careers with success while seeing a return to China as a fallback, rather than a choice driven by better opportunities.

顏寧院士在微博中說：

“娛樂博主潛水多了，經常看到一個說法‘粉黑都滿意’——這個好像也特適用于我們學科。

冷凍電鏡技術橫空出世（這真的是game changer），三位在該領域深耕半世紀的前輩得諾獎，無知者：‘看，他們只會利用電鏡發論文灌水’；結構生物學研究人員則是喜大普奔，終于不用把寶貴的時間用在令人絕望的結晶這一步了，我們被賦能了，加速了理解生命、藥物研發的進程。”

Yan said groundbreaking tools in structural biology are often misunderstood by non-specialists. She described cryo-EM as a "game changer" that has freed researchers from the time-consuming and often frustrating process of crystallization, significantly accelerating discoveries in the life sciences and drug development.

據深圳特區報、深圳醫學科學院消息，近日，深圳醫學科學院顏寧團隊聯合清華大學團隊，在《科學》發表糖質結構研究重磅成果。這項成果為復雜糖質高級結構的發現、鑒定與工程化利用提供了新的方法學框架，標志著糖質結構生物學正進入原子分辨率解析的新階段。

公開資料顯示，顏寧1977年11月出生于山東章丘，2000年本科畢業于清華大學，2004年博士畢業于2023普林斯頓大學。2007年，年僅30歲的顏寧任清華大學教授、博士生導師，成為“清華最年輕教授”。

Yan received her bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University in 2000 and conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University from 2005 to 2007. She established a lab in Tsinghua University in October 2017, which focused on the structural and functional study of membrane transport proteins and made a series of accomplishments in eight years.

2022年11月1日，顏寧宣布回國，辭去普林斯頓大學教職，到深圳創立醫學科學院。2022年12月10日，她出任深圳醫學科學院院長。2023年3月，她獲聘為深圳灣實驗室主任，同年11月當選中國科學院院士。

At the 2022 Shenzhen Global Innovative Forum of Talents, Yan announced that she would resign from Princeton and return to China to help establish the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation.

In November 2023, Yan was appointed director of Shenzhen Bay Lab, according to the laboratory's official WeChat account.
