In order to actively engage in the improvement of mountain tourism governance systems, facilitate development of professionalization, standardization and promotion, the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) gathered experts to formulate the Certification Criteria of World Famous Tourism Mountains in 2024. Based on the standard, a total of 22 mountains have been certified as "World Famous Tourism Mountains" from around the world, including Jungfrau in Switzerland, Annapurna in Nepal, Mount Huangshan and Changbai Mountain in China, etc. It has generated widespread attention and enthusiastic response from both the society and industry, provided more references and guidance for global tourists in choosing high-quality mountain tourism destinations.

The appraisal and certification of "World Famous Tourism Mountains" is beneficial for promoting the scientific conservation and rational utilization of mountain tourism resources, enhancing the authoritativeness and industry leadership of the "World Famous Tourism Mountains" certification, highlighting the core value of famous mountains, and stimulating their high-quality sustainable development momentum. The IMTA is now calling for applications for the "World Famous Tourism Mountains" from all over the world in 2026, warmly welcomes related mountain management institutions to actively apply for participation. According to the Certification Criteria, the IMTA Secretariat will gather experts to sift, scrutinize, and certify during the process. Successfully certified applicants will be officially announced and issued certification as "World Famous Tourism Mountains" at the, IMTA's key events.
