China has rolled out zero tariffs on imports from 53 African countries with diplomatic ties starting May 1, 2026. The first shipment—24 tons of South African apples—cleared customs in Shenzhen, dropping tariffs from 10% to 0 and boosting cost competitiveness. The policy follows a 2024 move granting zero tariffs to least-developed countries, further strengthening China-Africa trade and supporting African economic growth.
